Editor’s note: For sometime now Keith Olbermann has been taking pot shots at Ann Coulter. Taking lessons from Coulter, Olbermann uses Coulter-ish ad hominem attacks about her masculine or non-feminine appearance. However Olbermann never attacks or questions her sexuality. As a frequent listener to Mr. Olbermann on ESPN radio and MSNBC, I understand that Mr. Olbermann does not think it an insult to be called gay or a fag or any other term which is most often used by men to challenge or deride the lack of masculinity in another. That is, Olbermann, like I, finds that the epithets are not funny, not informative, and not insulting. Olbermann does not have problem with people for their sexuality, rather their politics, the manner and judgment. Apparently Ann Coulter does like to invoke prurient ideas and bigoted ideals about homosexuals, or at least her fan base does. So when Ms. Coulter told everyone that she would not call Senator John Edwards a faggot because she did not want to go to therapy, her fans roared with laughter.
Of course Coulter was both calling the Senator a faggot (which is as funny as calling him a hetero/breeder) and criticizing the social politics of the show Grey’s Anatomy where one cast member is gay, but plays a heterosexual, and one of the Black male actors openly attacked the now openly gay cast member, only to check himself into therapy. Part of the Coulter-cult complaint must be something like, “I can hate faggots if I want and there is nothing wrong with me, in fact I am supposed to hate faggots and therapy is some wishy-washy liberal brainwashing tool to make me feel bad about hating someone whom I do not know, for something that does not affect me …” That said, it should be noted that most of the people who complain about the sexual orientation or effeminate nature of men are other men. So when Ms. Coulter chose to call Senator Edwards a faggot, her choice of words stimulated some of us to wonder why she would say that instead of something more common of women and more appropriate for a lady.

The Wonder Years
Most of us wonder about Ann Coulter. Over the last several years we have watched her move from marginal to center stage as the Neo-Cons ate up the Republican Party, using their constellation of think tanks, PNAC, Heritage Foundation, and Cato Institute, to market their ideas of hate, global domination and privatization of human services. These 'think tanks' and other institutions, like the Federalist Society, have multiplied like cockroaches over the past years as part of a concerted corporate effort dating back to the 1960s. And when their media-think tank propaganda was not enough they used other means; found ways of winning that would make Machiavelli blush or die of envy.
Coulter epitomizes success as a Neo-Con spokesman. Her books and high ticket price for speaking engagements made her a megastar in neo-conservative eyes. She has drawn in a generation of people who want to feel good about hating immigrants, global poverty and torture (young republicans), who idolize her for her mini skirts, her glamour, her power, and her neo-wealth. They are drawn in like moths to this brightest flame in the “Big Government, Christian-Dominism, privatize at public expense” wing of the Republican Party.
The fact is that success as defined in dollars and cents acts on most people like an aphrodisiac, but the new kind of activists drawn to the wrongly labeled Conservative Movement and the Republican Party has changed. It used to be that you were an activist because you were committed to making the world a better place by expanding economic opportunities, cleaning the air and water, promoting social and legal justice. That is what made the Goldwater Movement what it was. Barry was not always right, but he was an honorable man who did his best. Individual rights, small government, low taxes – later supporting abortion rights and drug legalization. Back then we all believed that was the only direction that any one could consider.
This past weekend CPAC was held again, this time at the Omni hotel in Washington D. C. Coulter was there to shine and bask in the applause. The latest botch of presidential candidates all wanted to be seen rubbing shoulders or other bodily parts with her. Which brings us to the point. Is Ann Coulter a woman or a man?
XX, XY or Something Else Entirely?
The question has grown in our minds so much over the last ten years that many of us can't even see her without wondering. It was Dan Borchers who first pointed out that she had an Adams Apple. Others then began pointing out other strange physical features, strange on a woman anyway. I was slow; but then I began to see what they meant about the same time that her behavior started to shock me.
Ann is not lady-like. She says very nasty things about people, things that are hurtful and irrelevant. Some people say she does this to shock and so engage people's minds in a real dialogue, but few believe that any more – she does not invite dialogue but looks to shout down others with a regular O’Reilley style “just shut up.” That is what she said about 9/11 widows. Apparently her style pays well. I am told that it is the shocking aspect of her rhetoric, not her lack of facts and outright lies, that keeps her and her books selling.
What’s in a Dress?
It is well known that one of Ann's best friends is Matt Drudge, the out of the closet gay guy (does that qualify him as faggot for Ann?) who also figures prominently as a Neo-Con operative. Ann and Matt hang out together. That is fine, I don’t see that there is nothing wrong with being gay. But let us consider other facts. She has no kids, was never married and yet is always glamorous.
As she has aged, between what seems to be an ongoing course of treatments, she looks more and more like a guy. This may come as a surprise, but men and women are different. Most liberals like to deny this, but hormones do tell. On the bell curve of behavior, males and females act differently. Ann Coulter acts like a man dressed up like a woman. She is aggressive, nasty, mean spirited, and entirely focused on getting her own way, no matter what. Ask Dan Borchers about the aggressive behavior.
Can We Take a Poll?
I decided she was a man a while ago. Having spent a life time raising little people, children, of both genders (three girls and two boys) to adulthood, I decided that Coulter was not like any woman I had ever known from PTA, church, the supermarket or elsewhere. It would be nice if she would have a DNA test. Failing that, I wonder what everyone else thinks.
Someone should take this poll, just for laughs – at a CPAC convention or maybe among the followers of Rev. Haggard, “Is Ann Coulter male or female?” Inquiring minds want to know.
